Secret encounters, forbidden love, and life-altering events unfold as the high society lifestyle continues. Thus begins an unconventional courting within the strict boundaries of the era. It will take George’s faith and promise of unconditional love to free her allowing her to choose her husband for herself. Choosing her heart’s desire would mean leaving her wealth and family behind as her father threatens to disown her. Can she be content in life as an ordinary rancher’s wife? She has no domestic skills or knowledge of how to be a wife without wealth and servants.  Political turmoil and religious persecution in the land, as two countries fight to control the prosperous region, will ultimately dictate their future.

The series will continue to follow Kate as each heirloom uncovers a new piece of her past and the continuing story of her ancestors.

Magdalena sat as if watching a play, a mere spectator in her life. All she gleaned from the encounter was that Lord Donovan had an appalling lust for money and seemed very pleased with the sound of his own voice. Her imagination often drifted to what life would be like to see him every day and have to listen to his insufferable high-pitched voice? She looked down at her new heels. He seems to have an exceptional future which will no doubt establish an agreeable prosperity for ours. What do you suppose dear?” He paused as if seeking his daughter’s response. She had only a forced smile.
He informed her that Lord Wallaby would be calling on her the evening after next and that she could do as she wished until then, except ride her horse. Those words roused her forgotten anger, but she didn’t dare let it show. “Very well. For the sake of this garment, I must change before I soil it.”
Once in her room, Magdalena was eager to put the experience with Lord Donovan behind her. Dismissing it as if it was just a one-time encounter instead of the reality that if her father had his way, she would be married within the next five months to a man she scarcely knew, not to mention didn’t love. Gazing from her window down the narrow path to the stables, her thoughts drifted to Cloetta who was well past her time to deliver her foal. She must find a way to check on her without rousing her father’s suspicions. An angry frown creased her forehead. Was the control of her life going to be handed from her father to her husband and never in her own hands? Her core ached. News of Cloetta would have to wait. Magdalena longed for the days of being at school where time was abundant and cares were few. Now that life she’d been raised and prepared for was here to stake its claim, and somewhere along the way life stopped making sense.
